This movie is so 70's in the worst ways. Soft focus, clunky exposition, and terrible dubbing, it’s almost unwatchable.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m hoping it gets better.

(update: tow truck chase was kinda neat)

Honestly there’s only one part worth watching.

I haven’t watched that one. I don’t know if I could handle it.

It has gotten much better, it’s like 50% car chase.

It is pure car chase porn in the sense that the plot isn’t why you watch it. It’s just there as a flimsy way to explain why the second half of the movie exists.

Have you seen The Duel? It’s great terrible. I started watching the original Gone in 60 Seconds, but got distracted after the wedding scene in the beginning.

So does the nicest cage remake have a better or worse reputation? Cuz that’s the only one I’ve seen and I can’t tell from what I’ve heard.

If it helps, this wasn’t a professional film, this was an indie piece done on a shoestring budget. There were no professional actors, writers, directors, stunt doubles, or even stunt coordinators (even for the big finale jump). This was the result of a dude who owned an auto wrecking yard deciding to get the people of his town together and shoot a movie. The main thief in the film is also the director/“writer”, H.B. Halicki (writer is in quotes because the film actually had no script, just several pages outlining the main dialogue sequences). Most of the firefighters in the film are real firefighters, most of the cops are real cops, most of the bystanders had no idea what was going on. The derailed train is real (it derailing had nothing to do with the movie, they just decided to add it when they heard it happened nearby). The high speed crash where he loses control of Eleanor and crashes into the light post wasn’t planned and nearly killed him (he was also injured doing the jump at the end). The car chase that makes up more than half of the movie destroyed a then-record 100 cars and is still the longest single car chase in film history.

Unfortunately he died while filming the sequel in 1989

Terrible acting, lots of smashing, and a big bang towards the end, leading to a huge mess all over.

Best car chase ever, bar none. I love this movie, it’s definitely a product of the 70s, which is what makes it amazing. I basically live my life trying to be as badass as HB Halicki was.

I couldn’t make it through it. Speed showed it year ago without commercials and I changed the channel 15-20 minutes in.

You’ve gotta make it to the second half, the first part is just a half assed attempt to justify the awesome car chase.
